Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist Peg Doll

I absolutely adore the Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist.  They are a group of reliigious sisters out of Ann Arbor, Michigan, who teach in Catholic schools across the country.  My husband and I have taught with a couple dozen sisters over the years, and our friendships with them have enriched our lives in numerous ways!  God has blessed this community tremendously, and each sister I meet radiates JOY in the fullest sense of the word.

Before I got married, I lived in Texas, where I taught at a Catholic high school with many sisters over the years.  I even taught a handful of sisters before they became sisters!  After getting married, I moved to Michigan, to a parish where the same order of sisters were going to start teaching that very same year!  In fact, I moved to the same diocese where the sisters’ motherhouse is located!

sisterMy husband and I taught at the local Catholic schools with the sisters when we first moved to Michigan, and while I stay at home now, my husband continues to teach across the hall from one of the sisters in our parish school!  This year, in fact, one of the sisters I taught with years ago during my single years in Texas is now teaching where I am living in Michigan!  I’ve anticipated this for years!

We are blessed to have the sisters in our everyday lives.  We often find ourselves in the pew in front of or behind the sisters at Mass each Sunday, and my children get to see and interact with them on a regular basis.  Each summer, we get to visit the motherhouse to witness the sisters profess their vows.  It is a blessing beyond measure to have such strong friendships with such holy women!  What a witness to our children, especially our daughter!

So…this might be my favorite peg doll of all time.  Looking at my Dominican Sister peg doll, my heart just smiles!  This one I painted reminds me of one of the sisters I worked with in Texas, her posture, her complexion and hair color, if that’s even possible!

God bless the Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist!
